The tale of the little girl on Barak Obama

Posted in Uncategorized on September 17, 2009 by kingmix

A stranger was seated next to a little black girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, “Let’s talk. I’ve heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”

The little girl, who had just opened her coloring book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, “What would you like to talk about?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” said the stranger. “Since you are a Negro, do you think that So-called President  Barak Obama is qualified for the job?” and he smiles.

“OK”, she said. ‘That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass -. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?”

The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it and says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.”

To which the little girl replies, “Do you really feel qualified to discuss President Barak Obama… when you don’t know shit?”

Keith Olbermann’s scathing criticism of Obama’s secrecy…. immunity claims

Keith Olbermann’s scathing criticism of Obama’s secrecy/immunity claims * Text size * Larger * Smaller AnswerTips-enabled Glenn Greenwald Salon April 8, 2009 * A d v e r t i s e m e n t * efoods Several weeks ago, I noted that unlike the Right — which turned itself into a virtual cult of uncritical reverence for George W. Bush especially during the first several years of his administration — large numbers of Bush critics have been admirably willing to criticize Obama when he embraces the very policies that prompted so much anger and controversy during the Bush years. Last night, Keith Olbermann — who has undoubtedly been one of the most swooning and often-uncritical admirers of Barack Obama of anyone in the country (behavior for which I rather harshly criticized him in the past) — devoted the first two segments of his show to emphatically lambasting Obama and Eric Holder’s DOJ for the story I wrote about on Monday: namely, the Obama administration’s use of the radical Bush/Cheney state secrets doctrine and — worse still — a brand new claim of “sovereign immunity” to insist that courts lack the authority to decide whether the Bush administration broke the law in illegally spying on Americans. Police Aggravate Peaceful G20 Climate Camp in the City of London

Police Aggravate Peaceful G20 Climate Camp in the City of London

by Patrick Henningsen

www.opednews.

Location Reporters: Patrick Henningsen and Brian Viziondanz

Authors’ Note: There were approximately 4,000 peaceful protesters at the City’s second main demonstration area at Bishopsgate dubbed the “Climate Camp” Wednesday afternoon. This was a relatively mild affair compared to the larger and more pressurized gathering outside the Bank of England.

From the morning onwards, Climate Camp was clearly a festival atmosphere complete with live music, food, street theatre and dozens of small camping tents erected on the road in front the European Climate Exchange building on Bishopsgate. Activities included seminars being held to highlight some of the problems with Carbon Trading.

See video footage of the Climate Camp festivities here.

From approximately 5pm, hundreds of auxiliary police in riot gear began to seal the entire encampment, including all entrances and exits along this city block. Any peaceful protester who requested exit from the area were flatly refused on the grounds which police repeatedly told people including, “It is not safe to leave the area”, and “We do not want people to leave and go on to join the other demonstration sites” and “We cannot risk you leaving the area and then throwing projectiles from behind our police lines.”

Police in a show of force during G20 Summit (Photo: Patrick Henningsen)

What ensued after 7pm can only be described as a total ‘Lock Down‘ of the public, after which protesters were hounded by a series of random forward surges by riot police, including incursions deep into the gathering. Note that by this point in the evening police forces had successfully “penned-in” approximately 4,000 peace protesters from both sides of this city block in a tactic which has come to be known as “Kettling”. This restriction of the public’s movement was extended to all protestors including anyone under physical duress, children, elderly, members of the Press and even passers by who happened into the area. The thousands who crowded at the four corners of the exits were in effect, forced to stand waiting for more than 4 and a half hours.

This eventually caused frustration in the crowds and inevitable pushing into police lines, followed by police retaliating by pushing back into the crowds. A recipe for disaster. We witness such an incident at 11pm at the north end of Bishopsgate where pushing nearly triggered a full scale brawl, narrowly averted, as cooler head prevailed. At 11:30pm police finally allowed the public at the north end to exit one by one. Just prior to 12am, Police moved to clear the peaceful sit-in with a further series of symmetrical surges, where a number of people and innocent bystanders were injured, including some hospitalised for injuries from falls and police baton blows.

Police clash with G20 demonstrators (Photo: SKY NEWS)

An April 2nd article in the Guardian newspaper notes one eyewitness testimony:

“Another protester recounts the way that police at the end forced them out without giving them time to get their tents or belongings, after holding them there for five hours. ‘It was all done in a mood of violence,’ she said. ‘It had been really peaceful all day, so I don’t understand why it had to end like that.’”
See video footage of the Police incursions on the Climate Camp here.

Also, there are multiple reports of police getting climate campers and press with video cameras to delete images and tapes on the spot, or face threat of seizure. See a full analysis these incidents at UK Indy Media.

What these reporters experienced at the Climate Camp protest was those whose job it was to ‘keep the peace‘ and ensure public safety, behaved in a totally opposite way- with police repeatedly instigating crowds, in effect stimulating a breach of the peace. Predictably, this created a climate in which public health and safety was indeed compromised- and in many cases, endangered. Similar operations were also used on crowds out in 2005 at the G8 Summit in Edinburgh. The question for the public remains why would police follow through with a technique that is shown time and time again to create an obvious pressure cooker? The results of this were in plain sight and are by now well documented in the mainstream media.

It would be a gross oversight for apologists to describe such crowd control tactics as the result of multiple instances of rogue police, or police under stress. These apparent crowd control tactics of “sealing in” the public were in fact consistent throughout the main demonstrations in the City that day, which would lead the casual observer to conclude that this show of force was clearly a predetermined police plan, with command and control-level orders executed on the day.

Police officials had apparently summoned Climate Camp organizers in the days ahead of the April 1st demonstrations, but judging by the results of the day, this dialogue was completely ineffectual. The fundamental question still remains: how can Police foster a healthy relationship between the public and the police, especially between young people (who are the majority of demonstrators) and the police?
Is this the shape of things to come, or can police and demonstrators coexist in public spaces without the pressure created by “Kettling” crowds?  More importantly, are civil liberties still applicable in 2009? The public and rights advocates will be expecting answers to these important before the next big demonstration.

Is this the shape of things to come?

There have been public gatherings on much larger scales in the UK where police and emergency services have managed to keep the peace with the public, but this new and disturbing trend of “lock down” only serves to further exacerbate relations between law enforcement and peaceful demonstrators.

There are solutions but the question is, do officials have the political will to find them?

Reply: Too much funding for law enforcement

I didn’t want to get too deep into the subject so readers can explore the pithy bits of this issue. However, I am convinced after the G20 demo that taxpayers and elected reps are giving way too much money to police, DHS etc which they are using to build an Imperial Police Force. This will become harder and harder to dismantle as time goes by.

Police are to “protect and SERVE” but they have now forgotten what this really means and are being paid large sums of cash in a job for life- their sole purpose will soon be to justify their budgets… period. We are on a slippery slope. Civil liberties are being phased out and people will become used to never having them- or remembering what it was like to live in a Free Republic. That’s no exaggeration….!

(December 2006) The term African people can refer to people who live in Africa, or people who trace their ancestry to indigenous inhabitants of Africa. [1] This includes members of the “African diaspora” resulting from the Atlantic Slave Trade such as Black British, Afro-Latin Americans, African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, and Black Canadians. The term Black people is often used as a synonym for people of African ancestry (in particular Sub-Saharan Africa), particularly in the Americas and Europe, although the two terms are not always considered synonymous. Distinctions within Africa’s geography, such as the varying climates across the continent, have nurtured diverse lifestyles among its population. The continent’s inhabitants live amidst deserts and jungles, as well as in modern cities across the continent. [edit] Prehistoric populations Study of the Y-Chromosome show that three waves of migration from Africa populated the world with Homo sapiens sapiens. Study of Mitochondrial DNA show that the original Homo sapiens sapiens population in Africa has diverged into three main lines of descent, identified as L1, L2, and L3. See the world map here. Perhaps it is a function of the number of excavations actually performed in given areas, but it is at least suggestive that the five very earliest out of the twelve of earliest archaeological discoveries of Homo sapiens sapiens have been in Africa and the adjacent Arabian peninsula.[2] As early as 1964, A. W. F. Edwards and others had discovered that three populations in Africa were related but distinguishable on the basis of a relatively small set of genetic information (20 alleles). Those populations were called Tigre (Ethiopians), Bantu (in southern Africa), and Ghanaian (West Africa). When general anthropometrics were taken as the criteria for grouping, the African population was split into a different three groups: the more closely related Pygmy (such as the Mbuti) and Bushmen (such as the Khoisan) and the Bantu.[3] By 1988 more genetic details were known, more groups could be distinguished on the basis of genetic information, but the relationships among these groups were accounted as different depending on which was the data was construed. The groups analyzed at this time were Bantu, Berber and North African, Ethiopian, Mbuti Pygmy, Nilotic, San (Bushman), West African.[4] A representation of genetic distances by one analysis In his recent book, Spencer Wells traces the migration of the early Africans beyond their own continent by noting the appearance of new genetic markers on the Y-chromosome as the migrations progressed.[5] Studies of mitochondrial DNA conducted within the continent of Africa have shown that the indigenous population has diverged into three divergent main lines of descent. A number of scholars such as Alan Templeton hold that support is found for traditional racial categories because many studies use the pre-defined categories to begin with, and subsequently insert data into those categories rather than let data speak for itself.[6] Tempeton uses modern DNA analysis to argue that human “races” were never “pure”, and that human evolution is based on “many locally differentiated populations coexisting at any given time” – a single lineage with many locally gradated variants, all sharing a common fate. Researchers such as Richard Lewontin maintain that most of the variation within human population is found within local geographic groups and differences attributable to traditional “race” groups are a minor part of human genetic variability.[7] Several other researchers (Barbajuni, Latter, Dean, et al.) have replicated Lewontin’s results.[8] According to a study by researcher L. Luca Cavalli-Sforza: It is often taken for granted that the human species is divided in rather homogeneous groups or races, among which biological differences are large. Studies of allele frequencies do not support this view, but they have not been sufficient to rule it out either. We analyzed human molecular diversity at 109 DNA markers, namely 30 microsatellite loci and 79 polymorphic restriction sites (restriction fragment length polymorphism loci) in 16 populations of the world. By partitioning genetic variances at three hierarchical levels of population subdivision, we found that differences between members of the same population account for 84.4% of the total, which is in excellent agreement with estimates based on allele frequencies of classic, protein polymorphisms. Genetic variation remains high even within small population groups. On the average, microsatellite and restriction fragment length polymorphism loci yield identical estimates. Differences among continents represent roughly 1/10 of human molecular diversity, which does not suggest that the racial subdivision of our species reflects any major discontinuity in our genome.[9] In the wake of this research, a number of writers[who?] question the classification of African peoples like Ethiopians into “Caucasian” groups, holding that given the minor proportion of human genetic diversity attributable to “race”, grouping of such African peoples is arbitrary and flawed, and that DNA analysis points to a range or gradation of types rather than distinct racial categories. Rather than arbitrarily allocating such African groups to a European “race”, the range of physical characteristics like skin colour, hair or facial features are more than adequately covered by the differentiation within local geographic groupings.[10] [edit] Indigenous peoples and ancient settlers Further information: Indigenous peoples of Africa Speakers of Bantu languages (part of the Niger-Congo language family) are the majority in southern, central and east Africa proper. However, there are several Nilotic groups in East Africa, and a few remaining indigenous Khoisan (‘San’ or ‘Bushmen’) and Pygmy peoples in southern and central Africa, respectively. Bantu-speaking Africans also predominate in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, and are found in parts of southern Cameroon and southern Somalia. In the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa, the distinct people known as the Bushmen (also “San”, closely related to, but distinct from “Hottentots”) have long been present. The San are physically distinct from other Africans and are the indigenous people of southern Africa. Pygmies are the pre-Bantu indigenous peoples of central Africa. The people of North Africa comprise two main groups; Berber and Arabic-speaking peoples in the west, and Egyptians in the east. The Arabs who arrived in the seventh century introduced the Arabic language and Islam to North Africa. The Semitic Phoenicians and Jews, the Iranian Alans, and the European Greeks, Romans and Vandals settled in North Africa as well. Berbers still make up the majority in Morocco, while they are a significant minority within Algeria. They are also present in Tunisia and Libya. The Tuareg and other often-nomadic peoples are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa. Nubians are a Nilo-Saharan-speaking group (though many also speak Arabic), who developed an ancient civilization in northeast Africa. Some Ethiopian and Eritrean groups (like the Amhara and Tigrayans, collectively known as “Habesha”) speak Semitic languages. The Oromo and Somali peoples speak Cushitic languages, but some Somali clans trace their founding to legendary Arab founders. Sudan and Mauritania are divided between a mostly Arabized north and a native African south (although the “Arabs” of Sudan clearly have a predominantly native African ancestry themselves). Some areas of East Africa, particularly the island of Zanzibar and the Kenyan island of Lamu, received Arab Muslim and Southwest Asian settlers and merchants throughout the Middle Ages and in antiquity. [edit] Colonisation [edit] European Despite having presence in Africa since Greek and Roman times,in the sixteenth century, Europeans such as the Portuguese and Dutch began to establish trading posts and forts along the coasts of western and southern Africa. Eventually, a large number of Dutch augmented by French Huguenots and Germans settled in what is today South Africa. Their descendants, the Afrikaners and the Coloureds, are the largest European-descended groups in Africa today. In the nineteenth century, a second phase of colonisation brought a large number of French and British settlers to Africa. The Portuguese settled mainly in Angola, but also in Mozambique. The Italians settled in Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia. The French settled in large numbers in Algeria where they became known collectively as pieds-noirs, and on a smaller scale in other areas of North and West Africa as well as in Madagascar. The British settled chiefly in South Africa as well as the colony of Rhodesia, and in the highlands of what is now Kenya. Germans settled in what is now Tanzania and Namibia, and there is still a population of German-speaking white Namibians. Smaller numbers of European soldiers, businessmen, and officials also established themselves in administrative centers such as Nairobi and Dakar. Decolonisation during the 1960s often resulted in the mass emigration of European-descended settlers out of Africa — especially from Algeria, Angola, Kenya and Rhodesia. However, in South Africa and Namibia, the white minority remained politically dominant after independence from Europe, and a significant population of Europeans remained in these two countries even after democracy was finally instituted at the end of the Cold War. South Africa has also become the preferred destination of white Anglo-Zimbabweans, and of migrants from all over southern Africa. [edit] Indian European colonisation also brought sizable groups of Asians, particularly people from the Indian subcontinent, to British colonies. Large Indian communities are found in South Africa, and smaller ones are present in Kenya, Tanzania, and some other southern and east African countries. The large Indian community in Uganda was expelled by the dictator Idi Amin in 1972, though many have since returned. The islands in the Indian Ocean are also populated primarily by people of South Asian origin, often mixed with Africans and Europeans.[11] The Malagasy people of Madagascar are a Austronesian people, but those along the coast are generally mixed with Bantu, Arab, Indian and European origins. Malay and Indian ancestries are also important components in the group of people known in South Africa as Cape Coloureds (people with origins in two or more races and continents). [edit] Others During the past century or so, small but economically important colonies of Lebanese[12] and Chinese[13] have also developed in the larger coastal cities of West and East Africa, respectively.[14] [edit] Decolonisation Further information: Decolonisation of Africa Decolonisation has left some nations in power and marginalized others. Conflicts with ethnic aspects taking place in Africa since Decolonisation include * Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency (since 1987) * Somali Civil War (since 1988) * Casamance Conflict (since 1990) * Conflict in the Niger Delta (since 1990) * Insurgency in Ogaden (since 1995) * Second Congo War (1998-2003) * War in Darfur (since 2003) * Kivu conflict (since 2004) * Civil war in Chad (2005–present) * Second Tuareg Rebellion (since 2007) [edit] Contemporary demographics Main article: Demographics of Africa Total population of Africa is estimated at 888 million as of 2006, projected to reach 1 billion by 2015. The demographics of Africa is characterized by high population growth, high infant mortality, low life expectancy (partly due to malnutrition and HIV) and poverty (low Human development index). These characteristics mostly apply to Central and sub-Saharan Africa, with the Mediterranean (Arabic) North and South Africa showing different patterns. [edit] African-descended people outside Africa Main article: African diaspora Recently, the idea of an African diaspora, encompassing all people of African identity regardless of where they live, has emerged. There are substantial newcomer populations of people descended from indigenous Africans outside Africa, most notably in Brazil, the United States, Canada, the U.K., and the Caribbean, as a result of the forcible removal of their ancestors from Africa through slavery and the historical Atlantic slave trade. There are also large populations of people of African descent in many South and Central American countries such as: Suriname, Guyana, Panama, Honduras, and Belize. Brazil received more African slaves than any other country in the Americas and today has the largest population of people of African descent in any country outside of Africa. There are also substantial minority populations in Europe of African-descended people who emigrated to Europe, and Europe is a popular destination for recent migrants from Africa. [edit] African identity Please help improve this article or section by expanding it. Further information might be found on the talk page. (March 2009) The term “African” (or just “Afro-“) has been used to describe people in a wide variety of contexts. [edit] African Americans Main article: African Americans In particular, people who identify themselves as African American acknowledge the fact that they are of African descent,[citation needed] though in most cases they and their ancestors have lived outside Africa for hundreds of years and may have significant non-African ancestry. [edit] African Australian Main article: African Australian [edit] Afro-Brazilian Main article: Afro-Brazilian [edit] Afro-Europeans Main article: Afro-Europeans [edit] Afro-Latin American Main article: Afro-Latin American [edit] African Pakistanis Main article: African Pakistani There are also a significant number of African-descended people in present-day Pakistan, as well as India, known as the Sheedi. These people are the descendants of the African slaves who were brought over to South Asia three-hundred years ago as indentured labourers. Today, the Sheedis reside mostly in the Sindh and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan and a minority is also found in the Gujarat region of India. Some prominent Sheedi personalities from Pakistan include Hoshu Sheedi and Noon Meem Danish. [edit] Afro-Turks Main article: Afro-Turks [edit] Pan Africanism The Pan Africanist Marcus Garvey was an important proponent of the Pan Africanism, which encouraged those of African descent to look favorably upon their ancestral homelands. This movement would eventually inspire other movements ranging from the Nation of Islam to the Rastafari movement (which proclaimed him a prophet). Garvey said he wanted those of African ancestry to “redeem” Africa and for the European colonial powers to leave it.
