oh please!!! this is a guy who has spoken big words of change.. but he has never said anything about what the change is.. vacuous words… please be wary of this guy – he is not the bringer of hope we believe he is… he is just another puppet president , serving the agenda… false illusions of hope.. get over it.. the change is only going to come from within us…!!!
Brian Viziondanz at 16:18 on 25 January
well it is an unknown, but i agrre that change has to take place within each one of us and as it does, it will show up in the external world.we have been working on change within for a long time now, maybe this IS the beginning of it showing up in our external politic – maybe?maybe not, we just don’t know, but what we do know is that obama is here and is the president of the usa and in that role he weilds tremendous power globally for better or worse – someone was going to take the job, so surely its more powerful to have a positive attitude and embrace possibilty than it is to live in fear and negativity.what will that achieve, its fear and negativity that has brought the world to the brink – i reserve judgement on obama, i don’t believe he is a hippy or a peacenik – he is a product of our times and has inherited a very challenging situation, he can get much further down the road with our support than he can with just the support of the warmongers of this world

Aviva V at 16:37 on 25 January

don’t mean to be down on your video… your brilliant at what your doin… just wanna say.. keep an open mind bout it… I personally don’t beleive he has any power.. its the same force behind him that was behind George Bush and all the other presidents.. this one just has a more likeable facade… there is positivity in the world.. but it lies in each of us taking our own power.. not givin it to some guy who has so far been all words and no action…

obama is an other and very clever illusion,, who’s task is re create the mask of america while the real damage has allready been done,, people seem to have short memories and hope in world that can only be changed by the belief and action of all people, not from one man alone… he has a chance,, but as aviva says,, opium of the masses is HOPE, and that is very dangerous.
Patrick James H at 17:54 on 25 January
I agree… people should be careful not to get drunk on political rhetoric and abstract terms like HOPE, CHANGE etc. These exact words have been employed in the past by a number of successful dictators and fascist heroes throughout history.People need to remember that a President can only dispense words. The people, in the end, hold the real power to inact change in policy. If the Anglo-American hegemony ever reverses its damaging foreign policies- it will be because the PEOPLE- not the President, demand such change. We must not forget our responsibilities as citizens.Governments have NEVER supplied freedom and liberty in history… only PEOPLE have done this. Don’t ever forget it.

Sirius Lee at 18:04 on 25 January
apologies, the shipment is destined for Israel,, the point of vision of the one manned automatic car is IRan,, so be aware,, the illusion is allways to move behind the lines with distraction of the masses,, they are playing the same trick again and again,,
Aviva V at 21:09 on 25 January
I don’t need to give him a chance – I see through the facade, I know where the real power lies and I have no delusions about what their agenda is.. Obama is a pawn in their game….. a false promise of hope in order to seduce people into giving up more freedom… the guy who is probably gonna be bringing in the new world order… we need to be wary and stop this naiveity that he is somehow our saviour.. I feel like the sheep who is aware that the trucks that are coming are taking you to the slaughter house and you think your goin for a nice ride ….

the point is that in the realpolitk, on the grpound, outside of all our theories which could be correct or in correct, there is a political structure that administers the affairs of our global culkture, if we completely ignore this and rfuse to participate and even undermine the positivity of the culture regarding this, we leave the structure open to be preyed upon by a faction of the culture that represents the darker side of human nature.we lightworkers are the leading edge of evolved consciousness and i believe that its up to us to bring that conciousness to the table on every level of our civilistion including the political structure , we have become knee jerk in our reaction to the establishement.allisone and in that understanding, it is all important and it all requires our service.negativity spreads like a diease and i believe that it is irresponsible to feed that fire in these times especially when positivity is vital to the recovery of the culture.

i don’t believe that any one person can save me or the world, we are all in this together. obama is part of the mix , we are all playing out different roles. if you believe its all dammed and going to hell, you have abandoned thge belief that the human heart in essence is good.every human heart can turn and come to the light, no matter how lost in the darkness it may be.

Patrick James H at 11:22 on 26 January
I agree with you Brian whole heartedly. But I truly believe that some of the previous comments a valid too. There is also a role for those of us as “keeper of the lighthouse” (or firehouse) and there are times in the affairs of men that the alarm must be raised. If my building is burning down and I shout to all of my neighbors, “Look, it’s a fire! Get out!”, by raising the alarm, I am not being negative, I am simply warning my neighbors because I don’t want them to perish.I believe that the powers that be will stop at nothing- except if people stop them, to have a most insideous agenda met worldwide. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is a ‘conspiracy reality’. The evidence is all around us. So some of us lightworkers must also wield a sword in defense of humanity, and the soul of humanity is the ultimate target of the One World Order agenda. The ‘scientific dictatorship’ or ‘neo-feudalism’. Whatever the name, it’s not for us.Obama should serve the people, and no one else.

I just got back from America and I can tell that after Bush, Obama and McCain pushed through the banker bailout ($8.5 trillion so far…) a lot of Americans divided on where these politicians’ loyalties really lay. High crimes. The economic storm is just beginning. Obama’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton just congratulated Israel for the seige in Gaza and made a pact to isolate Iran this week- so no change there. If the “Change” we want is peace and an end to all the illegal military occupations, then that “Change” is not going to happen anytime soon, judging by Obama’s Admin’s stated public declarations on the subject. Is ‘change’ just a word? Well, it’s not a noun. Or should there be some action to it??Let’s not be naive and put all our hopes into a Messiah ideal. That’s the spectator’s position. It’s too easy and will not yield change. What brings change in corrupt policies and geopolitical power structures is PEOPLE who are both as well-informed… as they are active.
Patrick James H at 15:37 on 26 January
Excuse me but “a black man in the White House being served by white people”… be carefull there- you are nearly over the line with that comment.Last time I checked, in a democracy, it’s the President who SERVES the people. Don’t forget that. And he serves everyone, black, white, brown, old, young. If Obama does not produce, he will be judged as harshly as Bush by his critics. That’s reality.People are easily blinded by false paradigms like Left vs Right, Democrat vs Republican, Labour vs Conservative etc. We are programmed to think in these dialectics. They are manipulative and distract people from seeing the real framework in which they live. The President does not run the affairs of the country or the world. He takes his orders from men more powerful than he. Only the PEOPLE can guarrantee their liberty and freedoms.
Brian Viziondanz at 20:29 on 26 January
maybe, but it is an interesting metaphor as to how much change has already taken place.personally, i see only one race – the human race and that any acknowledgement is a form of of racial difference is racism
Sirius Lee at 00:08 on 27 January
here is a statement of change,, imagine the words,, ‘and all the armies around the world will now deploy all resources to teh needs of the earth and people, all technology will be utilised to rebuild africa,, providing peacefull,, non uniformed directive for the benefits of the human race’.. nice words,, that is change,, not words like ‘ we will continue the war on terror, but more humanely’ hahahah, come on brian,, taste the truth of reality,, metaphore’s are for philosphers, this world requirs direct action. what change is there really, when there are africans in control of africa sponsored by the whiteman at great costs to protect western interests in natural resources.. the same story again perhaps?? Bit like arnie in california, an actor in charge of tha 4th largest economy in the world
Patrick James H at 01:35 on 27 January
Today’s Guardian: “The Obama administration warned the US public yesterday to brace itself for an increase in American casualties as it prepares to step up the fight against al-Qaida in Pakistan”… that could’ve easily been said by Bush, but because it’s Obama then…It hurts to read news like that. The question we all must ask ourselves is life a spectator sport or will we get involved in the issues of the day? No matter WHO is President. It matters not to me, my remit was written long before Barrack came on the scene.
Patrick James H at 01:38 on 27 January
Also from today’s Guardian: “The Obama administration is to double the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 60,000 and when asked in a television interview if the US public should expect more American casualties, Biden said: “I hate to say it, but yes, I think there will be. There will be an uptick.”I wish I was making this stuff up. Really, I do:(

Thanks to Sirius Lee and Patrick for your words. I also think the analogy Aviva made is very apt: sheep being taken to slaughter thinking they’re going for a nice ride. I don’t think that thinking positively about Obama is going to make positive things happen, Brian. I also disagree when you say that people focus too much on negativity – I personally see most people as asleep and focused on lies..and it’s sort of understandable, because to see atrocities that occur over and over is difficult. But blocking out the negative is a lack of respect in my opinion. Personally, I don’t wish for my life to be guided by either hope or despair because I know both can be deceptive. I think there is a great difference between living positively and only seeing the positive.
Lisa I at 11:31 on 27 January
If you wish to support Obama, Brian, that is, of course, your choice. But keep in mind you have just produced a video promoting him and promoting that to all of us. And you have not even given real reasons or evidence as to why you think he is worth supporting beyond the “we must think positively” line.
Brian Viziondanz at 19:01 on 27 January
the video is not promoting him, it is questioning him as the whether is for real or not, and just for the record again i will say that i as asked to edit this, the message is not mine although i have to say i do have the same questionmy discipline is to be positive or neutral, if i can’t be positive i will at the least be neutralnegativity is the cancer and aids of the psychei give everyone a chance, big or small, i believe in the sincerety of every human being even though they often fall short as i do too
🙂
Lisa I at 20:26 on 27 January
So you think we should all be positive or neutral about the thousands slaughtered and tortured, about the way the earth is treated, about the continual erosion of civil liberties and ongoing enslavement of minds and bodies???
Brian Viziondanz at 21:03 on 27 January
yesnegativity only feeds the monsterits a big picture, the individual situations are a reflection of the state of the collective global psyche.
Paul M at 21:29 on 27 January
fire feeds fire – fear feeds fear – only water can put the fire out (read from that what u will) – i mean to say that we should take a positive stance as i believe the alternative can not produce any lasting effect that can be beneficial to us in the long run – imho 🙂
Lisa I at 22:43 on 27 January
Ok, Paul first – i agree that emotions can spread from one to another. However, I was not talking of emotions…I am talking about recognising the positive and negative in life in their completeness and not ignoring one or the other. There is some evidence to support the theory that positive thinking brings positive changes, but there is also some to the contrary. There has been hope and support of many leaders and “saviours” in his-story and many of them have not fulfilled peoples’ hopes and dreams. Brian, I think you are probably seeing things on a deeper level and you may have a point that negativity feeds the monster but I only agree with that in terms of feelings, not in what you see. I think overall people ignore negativity but the overall feeling may well be negative despite efforts to numb and dull pain. I sometimes wonder if it is the inability to face evil, darkness, negativity, whatever you want to call it, that keeps us bound in the state we are in.
Brian Viziondanz at 23:26 on 27 January
you assuming that positive and negative weigh the same, positivity is presence whereas negativity is absence, have ever tried to take a flash photo of a shadow?if you walk down the street frowning what response do you get, if you walk down the street smiling, how different is that?this is turning out to be a very interesting conversation and a very important conversation for the future of our global culture.we have the power right here right now to send ripples of positivity or negativity into this world, like a pebble thrown in a pond.

we can send out a ripple of the kind of energy the creates a smile or one that feeds the fear that people are already lost in.

war and peace begins right here right now with you and me

I agree that positivity is presence and negativity is absence, but I cannot discuss them in terms of weight. As to whether or not they have equal value in this dimension or any other, I don’t know either!
And I agree that on the whole if I smile I am more likely to get a smile back and if I frown a frown back. However, I also think that to give support and positive energy to what is negative does not necessarily bring about a positive state. To bring us back to the subject of Obama, I want to recognise what are lies and negative and not support them. If there is good in him, then I want to be able to recognise that too and support it.
Brian Viziondanz at 11:14 on 28 January
i look into the light and know that light eclipses darknessthe light wins – i cheated, i read the last page.no matter what dramas play out here during our evolutionary journeyobama is a product of the times we live in, not a hippy or a peacenik. he has to deal with real issues , whether we like it or not, the world geopolitical situation is a time bomb and it has to be disarmed with great care and awareness of all the issues.

I am not too sure, judging by some of the comments that I have seen here, (a good number of which I am fully in concert with and am inclined towards myself) whether Len’s lyrics have actually penetrated, so I now post them below for your perusal and forensic analysis: Once you have done so I welcome and will engage with all comers on meaning, intent, content etc.Lyrics of
Obama The New American Zeitgeist: Written by Len Folkes, produced by Len Folkes and David Amos and sung By Amara:
“OBAMA
Humanity’s right to opportunity
Comes from the enterprising spirit of justice
Obama, Obama are you the new American Zeitgeist?
You want to change America
From Rulership to Leadership,
No longer hegemonic or demonic but democratic
You know what Obama, We the world can live with that!
Change is preparation for the new
When the present is overwhelmed by all it’s dying
You say you will change America
From Rulership to Leadership
For peace at the price of supremacy
Is not the American way
Prosperi
King King at 15:53 on 28 January
Prosperity at the price of cultural terror
Is not the American way
Obama , Obama are you the new American Zeitgeist?
You promise to put out the new Bush fires
Still intent on destroying any new accords
For global understanding, tolerance and security
One more ghost from the past is a fear too far
And no amount of experience can hide its malevolence
Obama, Obama are you the new American Zeitgeist?
You want to change America
From Rulership to Leadership,
No longer hegemonic or demonic but democratic
You know what Obama, We the world can live with that!
Obama, Obama are you the new American Zeitgeist?
Wealth terror of a few exercising
Life-choices dominion over the majority
Is not the American way
Justice at the price of intolerance and in difference
Is not the American way
Obama, Obama are you the new American Zeitgeist?
You want to change America
From Rulership to Leadership,
No longer hegemonic or demonic but democratic
You know what Obama, We the world can live with that!”Len Folkes

I suspect that on reading what it is we are actually saying in the song, it may make a bit of a difference to some. I am convinced that there are those who will want to argue on and I welcome that debate, in fact I am hugely fascinated by the depth of feeling, passion and eloquent expression that has stirred here thus far. The only problem is that there is not very much space allowed by fb to actually address the issues substantively and so Brian and I will be jointly hosting this debate in a place that can sustain more rigorous exposition of the issues raised. We will inform you of venue4forum once we have set it up

aviva, i have to say that i am surprised by the reactions to this video and to the whole issue of obama’s election, but i believe that this is becoming a very important conversation – airing these issues/concerns.i totally understand why you and others would feel this way after all of the bullshit that has taken place behind the scenes and on the stage in americaat some point we, the global culture needs to come together and pull together in creating a better world.this is not going to happen from the inside of an “alternative” bubble.

there are zillions of people out there, all kinds of people , the very fact that obama is in the whitehouse whether installed or elected is a very big statement about the shift in the american culture.

as far as him being related to cheney or anyone else is by the way – in america the whole culture was seeded by a few wooden boats full of people from europe and i know what they were up to during that long voyage and those nights without tv 😉

I thank you for your very gracious note to me Lady …. ??? (Please step forward and take a bow up here. I would be so gratified if you would join us in our new forum) Strangely enough; I don’t really think that Aviva was being racist with that particular barb. I think she was being what she accused me of not having… Witty 😉 Do you get it?

Do you get it?

That being said, what I would like to task Aviva on is the following statements she made yesterday at: (Aviva V at)  20:40, on 28 January.in this place:

“I’m suprised really at you Brian who have been promoting “our new world order is Love” for years… did you ever have any idea what the real “new world order ” really is?.. Have you done any research…? BO
has mentioned the new world order.
how much footage of obama have you watched? how much do you know about who is in his cabinet?
I suppose the fact that he was funded by Zionists and his chief of staff is the son of a zionist terrorist is also by the by…Rahm Emanuel is his name – google it… http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://www.bollyn.info%2Fhome%2Farticles%2Fpolphil%2Frahm-emanuel-and-barack-obama%2F

…joe biden is another zionist – I suppose you also support what Israel has done to Gaza? … Obama and Biden or Osama Bin Laden? its all too uncanny… unless your caught in the hypnotic trance of vacuous words of hope… There is hope but it lies within the spiritual transformation we are going through and surrender to the Divine power that lies within us… Obama just isn’t that light..”

WOW! YOU ACTUALLY SAID AND MEANT TO GIVE MEANING TO:

“Obama and Biden or Osama Bin Laden? its all too uncanny”

I await further elucidation with eager  anticipation my dear.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHERE SUCH TRENCHANT HOSTILITY, HATRED AND VITRIOL COMES FROM.

I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE FOR YOU MY SISTER….  Breath in……. Now Breathe Out…. Now let us talk calmly and rationally.

king, i don’t get your point herewe are debating a very important issue, getting personal is counter productive in holding a meaningful debate.its always interesting to observe our emotional responses in these exchanges, but it is more productive in finding a way forward to confine these responses to observation”there is no good guy or bad guy, there is just you and me and we just disagree” … sometimesdebate is a path across disagreement to a point of shared agreement – ideally

onwards towards our healed world culture …………
🙂

L D G at 09:29, on 29 January
Whats going on here?….. I have just scanned this page and i am not happy at the sense of misunderstanding which cant be ignored! This is a pity so early on in proceedings. He who is without sin caste the first stone.I will put on my attention to detail hat, and read properly what has been said here, and then i will contribute when/if i can. But i must say Barrack doesn’t really need to ‘do anything wrong’ because people are fighting over him already!!!!Some people (not necessarily on this page) are already condemning the world to doom and gloom and those people are misguided or should be ashamed.
Brian Viziondanz at 10:46, on 29 January
listra, i welcome your input here, I have always found your comments refreshing.this video has opened a Pandora’s box, the responses are very much a fractal of the greater conversation that is taking place globally.its very interesting to me that when we went out on the streets to get some footage to complete this video, there was incredible enthusiasm and support for obama, yet here on facebook there is a surprising amount of cynicism and some extremely sinister conclusions..

Patrick James H at 13:07, on 29 January

Lisa said, “Some people… are already condemning the world to doom and gloom”.I was raising hell about Bush Jr getting through on fraud in 2000, and that’s more or less what people were saying to me at that time. “Don’t be so negative, give Bush a chance!” At the time, my problem with Bush wasn’t only that he didn’t win on votes, it was that I knew he was elevated, backed and owned by the transnational elite. He was also devoid of specifics on policy. I saw a dark time beginning. My concern about the packaging of Obama are the same. As an American, I can tell you all that Politicians will only carry out just policies WHEN THE PEOPLE DEMAND IT. If the people hold back and put their “Faith” in a leader, no constructive ‘change’ will take place. History has proven that over and over, and over. We are naive to think that somehow, this will be different.I believe that the Media backed by the old elite has successfully transformed all the hate we had for Bush- into ‘Love’ for Obama.

Patrick James H at 13:16, on 29 January

I believe that the Media backed by the old elite has successfully transformed all the hate we had for Bush- into ‘Love’ for Obama… a very smooth transition. The War policies will remain the same- this has already been proven by Monday’s airstrikes in Pakistan which killed more innocent people. VP Biden announces a doubling of troops in Afghanistan. The subject of a Military Draft is also back on table in the US, something EVEN Bush could never push through, but Obama… could do it. On the economic front, Obama’s gov’t will continue moving Trillions in capital to the top investment banks through the ‘bailout’ system.By giving the Executive and Big Government more power and control, will not lessen the problems we face, but make them progressively worse. This is not ‘gloom and doom’ as some feel, this is real life. We either face it, face real issues, learn these issues… or be doomed to repeat the misgivings and political failures of past generations and societies.
Brian Viziondanz at 13:17, on 29 January
the media has transformed our hate to love
hmmmm i like that,
the media working for a better world at lastwe can never have too much love in the world patrickyou want to generate more hate?
P J H at 13:30, on 29 January
If the Media are providing our ‘Love’ then we are all in deep, deep trouble. This is what was illustrated clearly in the book 1984, and made reality with China ‘love’ of Mao in the 50’s and 60’s(and still to this day, you will see his portrait in some people’s houses in China), or ‘love’ of Lenin in the USSR(I’ve seen his picture in our homes too). The media was started as a trusted source to inform citizens, now it has grown into power dispenser of different forms of corporate propaganda and is a public programming instrument. It can make us feel ‘afraid’ and make us feel ‘good’. If the public is truly aware and informed, then will not need big media to be happy. In the case of the Obama phenomenon, it appears we are, once again, being manipulated into complacency… which is exactly where our masters want us to stay.Q: If Odama escalates the war in Central Asia, will we go out and oppose Obama? Or will we stay at home?
Brian Viziondanz at 14:01, on 29 January
love is love
and love forges its own path
i stand FOR peace
and will alwayspeace does not come from fear, mistrust and hate
these are the ingredients for more war.the war in the east is already in motion
thats reality
the way to diffuse it is to build the love, eclipse the mistrust that has led to this war
🙂

Patrick James H at 14:32, on 29 January

Well, I believe that LOVE cannot be ‘built’ or increased. Love is the one inherent truth in our Universe. It is our human nature to love and love is revealed in our feelings and expressed in how we treat each other in the world. But when faced with bullying like that which has become so part and parcel with the Anglo-American empire- when a wedding party in Pakistan is rained upon by a 1000lb bomb for an American fighter jet, then I am forced to take the side of humanity and reject this gross exercise of pure State-terror carried out in my country’s name.If Bush… or Obama, is leading these operations and carrying on with business as usual, inflicting death and suffering on innocent defenseless people… then they should know that I will stand for humanity first, and not for their policies. I give even Obama NO quarter on such issues. They’ve crossed the line and they know it.We live in an age of great deception. Seeing through well constructed illusions is the challenge…
L D G at 14:33, on 29 January
What is happening is all part of the evolution of human consciousness patrick. if you look at the SECRET history of the world, you might have a better idea about from where human consciousness has emanated, and why it is at the stage it is now, and, indeed, where it is going. Thank goodness many more people are are refusing to be told what to think. Perhaps you have been manipulated beyond reason my friend. Most of us know what you know regarding the political sittuation, but refuse to allow the machinery you have described above, set our agenda for personal growth.I know there is little i can change physically , but we set the tone for our reality when we entertain deeply entrenched bitterness and fail to find a solution to the perceived problem.
L D G at 14:38, on 29 January
Oh Patrick …..my name is Listra, not lisa. Taken from the Greek play by Aristophanes called Lysistrata.
P J H at 14:41, on 29 January
It’s easy for us to talk high-mindedly about ‘world conscioussness’ and higher virbrational states, but such concepts are not a luxury to a families who has been wiped out in Gaza, Afghanistan or Iraq.
L D G at 14:53, on 29 January
You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time ,but not all of the people all of the time.I see this very old adage is very much in evidence on this page. It’s a good thing we have freedom of speech in this country. If this was the middle east, Pakistan things might be different. Some people forget their blessings whilst pretending they see no benefit in their lives.
P J H at 14:58, on 29 January
Listra,Be aware, you have NO IDEA what I ‘know’ or don’t know about this world and this universe. Nor would you know what history(or histories) I am schooled in, or not. And I won’t pretend to be able to illustrate this here. But you should know that my intentions are pure. I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but I am committed- for life, to defend those who are being abused, attacked, and enslaved. I have taken that road in life because I realised a long time ago that there is a real shortage of people will not stand up or help those who are under the hammer of dominance. Like it or not, we all fund and implicitly support our War machines, because we feel ‘helpless’. Obama, only a week in, and the death toll has begun.Sadly, the US, UK and Israel do not feel bound by the rule of law and only enforce it when it’s in their own material interest. To them, the UN is a tool which they ignore if is runs counter to their interests, or encourage if it helps their interest. Why??
L D G at 15:03, on 29 January
You still state the obvious.
L D G at 15:04, on 29 January
My name might be Listra but i do not see you as my adversary my friend chill.
L D G at 15:05, on 29 January
I’m off now …it’s been great. 🙂
P J H at 15:07, on 29 January
Listra, “freedom of speech in our country… not in the Middle East”…I actually just got back from the Middle East and in some countries like Lebanon, they have more ‘freedom of speech’ that in the UK, or the US. They don’t need to ask the police for ‘permission’ to demonstrate. In Saudi Arabia, I did not need to take off my belt, shoes and empty my rucksack when going through airports, but I had to do this many times in the US. Police to not stop and search random people on the streets, but in the UK they do now.We are not in an Ivory tower here, that’s another illusion. The difference between the so called Third World and here, is that we have been well-trained to love our shackles, and we even evangelise ‘how free we are’. Freedom takes many forms, but we can easily confuse ‘freedom’ with a controled choice or false paradigm. You would be surprised how many we don’t have, that other do have.
Lee Jasper at 11:27, on 30 January
Intresting converstaion here mind if I join in? The election of President Obama needs to be seen as the beginning of the end of 500 years of white supremacist domination. I the context of the history of historical and contemporary oppression of Africans world wide it represents a significant but not decisive break through. As Africans we celebrate his election because we understand that this represents progress. We may yet be dissapointed but as a result of our long march to freedon we celebrate these historic milestones.I think President Obama will make progressive changes and although he may not have intended to fundementally change the golbal economic order that gorges itself on profits and pain of the military/prison industrial complex the current collapse of the bloated and exploitative financial system is unleashing a democratic demand for social and economic justice.
L D G at 11:28, on 30 January

L D G at 11:32, on 30 January
Fantastic that another opinion has been expressed.

If the hand of history is truly on his shoulder he may just have the courage to do some reaaly great thing taking advantage of the window that is opening uo before us. Nevertheless the extent to which democracises and peoples are becoming increasing energised is obvious in Europe , US and throught the world. People are rightly angy and very afraid overlay this money trouble with our enviromental crisis and now, at this time is an opportunity to press for real and radical change. I believe that President Obama is a progreesive force for change and in so far as he introduces progressive policies he should be supported, where he does not or where he seeks to continue the project of American imperialsim he should and will be condemned.Whatever the outcome the requirement of promoting a positive attitude will remain critical. We must challenge injustice , racism , poverty and enviromental industrial vandalism. We must also educate and combat ignorance ar we run the risk of consuming al

i just want to say that i am loving the way this conversation is unfolding and bringing out concerns and fears legitimate or not.fear exists to ensure that we reach our destination safely, not to stop us.people are not bad because they are afraid, we are all afraid in some areas of our lives and there is innocence and integrity in acknowledging these fears.it would be useful i believe to run a sieve through this thread and isolate the essence, the fundamental issues that are being didiscussed, if I have the time later, I will do that, but if someone else wants to take that on, that would be great cos I am really busy.I am going to be shooting a video interview with the guys who were the visionaries behind this video over the weekend

we run the risk of all becoming victims to reactionary violence that simply results in an exchange of misery and opression from one group of peoples to another. Remaining optimistic looking for the good, challenging injustice with love is the only way frward for the human race. Once we drink form the cup of hate or violence we run the risk , however right our cause that we pollute or efforts seeding in the the very energy we are trying to defeat. I dont claim to have doene this and struggle daily with my furious outrage at Israel or the starvation of 220 million African’s on the continent. I am saddened at the way on which African suffering is relegated in the world pf public concern hiwever I am also aware that to allow myself to sucumb to such anger would relegate my humanity. I struggle daily with these issues and do not offer them here as a defintive response. Simply my own reflections on why I celebrated President Obama’ election and what it could mean. Here I have decided ..
Lee Jasper at 11:55 on 30 January
to give President Obama criticallly aware benefit of the doubt. He will have a thumbs up from me he pushes us closer to peace and enviromental balance. I apologies for the length of this post I started writing and could not stop…and in fact feel compelled to write more… To Mr King thank you sor for the invite to the debate. Hello to some people here I enjoyed your contributions and will be seeking your friendship. All Power to the People!

A slightly different note…… to Aviva Davidson above, who is definitely not politically correct and is walking on shaky ground…..tone down your prejudices. You are reverting to type. And don’t bully Brian for being neutral!!!!!
Brian Viziondanz at 12:31 on 30 January
listra, I would rather describe myself as open taher than neutral, open hearted and open minded – iread something on someon’s profile the other day that struck a chord
“when i am praying, I am talking to god, when I am meditating, I am listening to god”neutral can be a bit of a cop outI am FOR possibility, the power of love to eclipse hatred and fear and I am FOR creating a world where peace is the prevailing paradigm, understanding that peace must first begin within me and each one of us, and from there like a pebble thrown into a poind, will reverberate out foreverI am ok with aviva expressing her fears and concerns, sometimes when we allow ourselves to free flow, the expressions can be a little clumsy and ruffle some feathers, but if our feathers are ruffled by someone elses self expression, that is an opportunity for us to learn more about ouselves through observing and examining those responses

my preference for aviva and others to feel totally safe in allowing themselves

Brian Viziondanz at 12:32 on 30 January

Patrick James H at 12:35 on 30 January
Not to confuse one’s personal state of happiness, balance or spirituality with the responsibilities of living in a modern democratic society. The controlling influences in power centres like Washington are planning 10-20 yrs ahead, wars are being drawn up as we speak. The only thing which stems this tide is an informed and aware public. I’m being negative, quite the contrary. Look at what has transpired in the last 8 years. It is not public knowledge that the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were planned YEARS before the event. Why? We are just meant to behave as if it all played out like some bad movie. We are meant to react- but only after it’s too late. If left only to react after the event, the people’s power is severely marginalized. And many innocent lives are lost as a result. Generations of broken families, breeding more animosity and division in regions like the Middle East and Central Asia. And the next stop for the Anglo-American empire may very well be AFRICA…
Patrick James H at 12:40 on 30 January
Gov’t in America(and the UK too) has bloated to a size and scope that interferes and is most pervasive in every area of our lives and the lives of people in overseas. As an American citizen, however, it is my option, but my duty to keep the government in check. This is outlined in the US Constitution, which clearly states that undeclared wars and pre-emptive attacks are illegal. The question for this new Gov’t is whether they feel it’s a priority to abide by the law of the land.We may see in the next 4 years a move to increase the US interest in Africa, and Obama may be instumental in selling this to Africa. Judging by the past US foriegn policy(and all those old boys are still running things) we should be a little worried about this… see, read for yourself:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Africa_Commandhttp://www.defenselink.mil/home/pdf/AFRICOM_PublicBrief02022007.pdf

If the people are up to speed, then they have a bigger voice and can get the debate on!

Brian Viziondanz at 12:47 on 30 January
i have no doubt that this is true, i remember when i was living in america, I found a war board game at a yard sale that was designed to sell to children of 6, 7 8 who came of fighting age at the time of the first iraq invasion. On the cover of the box was a war scene with arabs as the enmy and there leader had the face of saddam hussain looking as he did at the time of the invasion. I think it was made bay mattel – preparing the kids in advance for when they would be called upon to go to war.I am under no illusions about this dark agenda lurking behind the scenes.but its no my agenda and its not the agenda of most people on this planet. Why should the dark agenda of minority prevail and mine and your not prevail”we are the powers that be”

as soon as we understand this, we are free from the power and control merchants

while we continue to acknowlege their power, we feed and maintain it.

they are just people like you and I wearing costmes of war, lost in some story/momentum

Aviva V at 15:20 on 30 January
And thats all I’ve been trying to say in this discussion thankyou!!! be aware of the situation but hold your vision to the higher reality that is unfolding through us as we anchor the higher plan of light… Thats all… I only reacted to this video because I see this Obama mania as people projecting their power for “change” onto one man… who we know little about… the power lies within us… the love at the core of our being… And that is what will bring change when we realise we can create our own reality on a collective global scale… another president, same ole shit, different branding… lets together create a world full of love…LOVE is the power…
Aviva V at 18:08 on 30 January
of course Obama is playing his role in the planetary shift… but its best not to get lulled into a false sense of security… Henry Kissenger an ole time illuminati said himself that the troubles escalating worldwide and people’s love for Obama are creating the perfect opportunity to bring in the new world order… we have to know the game plan so we can be one step ahead…I had enough of this discussion now… I’m getting back to creating that higher reality…
peace and out
Peter LionHeart at 18:45 on 30 January
I have indeed, been following the unpacking of this debate to date, with great interest. For what it is worth, my own view is that yes, all US Presidents have been directed in respect of both domestic and foreign policy spheres by a vested and very powerful, elite or cabal. However, whilst respecting for example, Aviva’s view that he may be just the same old wine but packaged in a new and altogether very different shaped bottle, at the same time I am an apostle of the opinion that even if, as Patrick opines, terms like HOPE and CHANGE are merely abstract terms that can and are, utilised in the arsenal of cynical political rhetoricians, nevertheless, at the same time, their reverberations to the world wide masses can and will be, reconfigured, indeed ‘bent to the logic’ of their own particular desires…
Peter LionHeart at 18:46 on 30 January
…These energies, mostly merging into pre-existing philo-social or religio-cultural discourses – which clearly represents a more ‘tangible zeitgeist’ than the power brokers within the Obama administration may be able to either grasp or manage- constitutes concretely will(s) not easily to be dissipated by any forces of entrenched interests.
Peter LionHeart at 18:46 on 30 January
Lets remember folks, as long as we are living, we are always energising something or the other which then pre-disposes us to some kind of self activating power. By the way, even if he is mainly a receptacle to mostly disseminate the interests of an elite, it still remains that by virtue of what one could perhaps say is the metaphysical mandate (through the zeitgeist), that has been projected onto and to a sense now constrains him, then there are spaces for him to authorise or direct initiatives that much enlightened global opinion may at a later date historically credit him with.
Peter LionHeart at 18:47 on 30 January
Yes, Aviva, the ‘real change’ ultimately only comes from the people so, therefore given this dialectic, if the new administration of Obama elects to flagrantly dismiss the power of their expectations in this harrowing world economic and ecological landscape, then the challenges for them will prove to be labyrinthine in their consequences. Against this backdrop our song, far from being any unadulterated peon or worshipful tribute to the 44th US President, is no such thing.
Peter LionHeart at 18:47 on 30 January
On the contrary, in the words of its author Len Folkes it is, and I quote: ‘a specific appeal and expectation given that the world is now subsumed in a malaise where tried and tested methods of crisis management no longer offer any viable, immediate, short –or perhaps, long term solutions’. Moreover, he further makes clear, ‘It must be understood that the Artist representing the new world spirit is not so much acting as the conscience of Obama as she is the will for this spirit ’
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 18:54 on 30 January
In the enthusiastic and overwhelming support of Obama, I think Patrick is correct when he warns us against getting drunk on the heady brew of abstract terms such as hope and change as their antecedence and material effects in the hands of tyrants have produced some of the darkest moments in recent human history. I have no arguments with this wait and see critical analysis. Yet, Patrick knows full well that words, terms and concepts loaded with the possibility of mobilising the consciousness of people need not propel them into the terror of a new darkness.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 18:54 on 30 January
The well- spring of people’s hopes comes from the sources of multiple (including, spiritual, emotional and social) determinations, which enables them to first self-motivate and secondly, to self-action their original aspiration into some kind of concrete outcome or manifestation. When we canvassed people’s thoughts on the streets of Brixton -for the inclusion on the music video- on what the Obama presidency meant for them, the most spontaneous words issued from their thoughts were the words were HOPE and CHANGE. Hope for something more than what was and what is, Change, from what is towards something that could be! I had already alluded to this in the song’s lyrics, thus:Change is preparation for the new
When the present is overwhelmed by all it’s dying
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 18:55 on 30 January
Why should we be persuaded or indeed seduced, to the perverse and erroneous view that outside of the “proprietorship” of the thinking elites, that these words (which for me are powerful symbols of self-activating renewal) have a less weighty value in motivating the mass of people towards firstly, the cognitive act of self-realisation and then secondly, the material manifestation of this affirmation?
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 18:55 on 30 January
There is a tendency particularly noticeable in times of great social upheaval and crisis for many extreme social critics, to write off the sudden upsurge of people’s collective consciousness to resist their perceived sense of subordination and their determination in turn to constitute new manifestos of self- change, as something of an opiating dream that they have no chance of waking up from! These social critics try to convince themselves that have the only ‘true’ understanding of the past, the present and indeed, the future.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 18:56 on 30 January
They then go on to proffer in the myriad sound bites and spin, a prognosis, evaluation and ultimate supreme definition(s), of the particular social turbulence under scrutiny. Simply put, they espouse some form of concrete empirical validity, when in truth and in fact, many aspects of the phenomena have yet to be visibly announced. Why, was it not Chow en Lai who when once asked what he thought about the French Revolution replied, ‘ it’s a little too early to say’. In light of this, I then ask myself, just who is doing the real opiating?
L D  G at 22:49 on 02 February
Very …very well put.
Patrick James H at 23:19 on 02 February
Len, you pointed out “the sudden upsurge of people’s collective consciousness to resist their perceived sense of subordination”… yes, I do remember a recent time when this materialised, Feb 15th 2003, I myself on the streets of London with 2 million good people. I will never forget the feeling of awareness, possibility in the air that day. It took a war to spark it, but more importantly, people TOOK ACTION. Too many folks have been zapped into what I call “lottery mode” aka buying a £1 ticket and ‘hoping’ things will ‘change’ in their life. That mode is the same as watching TV.My message for everyone is MAKE IT HAPPEN. In the end it will be you, not Obama, Jesus or whoever, who will be the Change. Again, throughout history- Governments have NEVER guarranteed freedoms, liberties, progress, only PEOPLE have. That is the only thing you can bank on.PEACE
Patrick James H at 23:40 on 02 February
This is a side note, but the practice of ‘rendition’ in the great War on Terror has just been secured by law this week…http://www.infowars.com/obama-preserves-rendition-two-days-after-taking-office/
Patrick James H at 12:32 on 03 February
African-American voices like KRS1 and Professor Griff are warning about not getting swept up in Obama’s ‘cult of personality’. I was listening to these guys for a long time, and I was surprised to hear them say this in interviews recently.Take a look at examples in history and tell me when a Cult of Personality, complete with artwork, coffee mugs, et all… has ever been good for a society. This poor guy hasn’t even done a full term as US Senator and the world is looking to him for salvation? It’s as bizzare as it is spectacular. With the sheer amount of CFR and Trilateral appointees in his cabinet, I suspect he is being used as an agent of the Establishment. Watch which laws are being passed and where troops are being deployed. Legislation and Foreign Policy… these are two of the main products which his administration will try to sell to the American people… watch this space.
Brian Viziondanz at 12:38 on 03 February
what was that i heard one time?”there is nothing to fear but fear itself”DO YOU SUBSCRIBE TO THAT WAY OF THINKING?
🙂
Patrick James H at 13:27 on 03 February
Don’t confuse the term FEAR with my role as a VIGILANT CITIZEN. If we still live in democracy, then the politicians still work for us and someone has to keep an eye on the STAFF!!!!!Word.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 14:19 on 05 February
Patrick, I don’t think it is the job of governments to guarantee freedoms. They have never done, nor will they ever do so. They are in the business of procuring laws; laws constrain, restrain, detain and coerce. Whatever their claims to moral superiority, laws seldom liberate and when they do, it’s a victory for commonsense over the excessive irrationality of the abuse of power on the part of the powerful over the less powerful.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 14:27 on 05 February
Do you really believe Obama wilfully constructed a cult of personality?
If he was doing good political business when getting elected and now as president trying to stay popular, then it seems to me pretty foolish for him to try to stop the exploitation of his image by all-comers.
Idolatry and the cult of personality is the safety pin of faith. Perhaps if we the ordinaries had faith in ourselves, we would all be leaders!

there are no such things as inherent rights, we are in the process of carving out a vision of civilisation from the random anarchic nature of lifeforms crawling over each other on a random spinning rock in the vastness of time and space – “down from the trees, not walking upright” —- YET!

seem the singer sang, ‘From Bullyship to Leadership.’ Either would
have been a great bumpersticker in this last election.I just hope the world understands that the people here were really
traumatized by the attack on 9-11. We were a bit numb from the shock
and it was easy to lead us down the wrong path in Iraq and the ‘War on
Terror.’ We began to wake up in the 2004 elections, but unfortunately
a tone-deaf candidate (Sen. John Kerry–and, yes, I voted for him)
couldn’t move a large enough block of average Americans to vote for
him to make it impossible for election tricks (this time in my home
state of Ohio) to keep Bush in.

He was only 5 when we were attacked and he remains fearful of another
attack. He felt safe with the stern grandfather image of McCain and
not so safe with the more inclusive Obama. I hope as he grows up in
this new Administration, he see what our Nation can be–much better

first I thought this was a joke. But this seems to be a serious conversation? Obama.. Zeitgeist.mm. maybe I’d go so far as antichrist. even thats a longshot, he has yet to earn that one.. but silly as it seems, is more likely than the other notion. Is the big polliteconomical charade not blatantly obvious. “democracy”, this freedom to pay tax and fund wars.. capitalism drives this engine of destruction, and the biggest earner is wartoy.. which government is free of this globally enslaving institution called free market enterprise?” he controls the spice, controls life”.when money is the spice, then those that fund and profit off Pharma and war, are the ones that control this apparently free market. All administrating boddies are in their pockets- so to speak… to believe that the govt is anything but a farce, seems dangerous. it takes our eye off the proverbial ball.. here we are chatting about their frontman, while Iraq,Ethiopi, Afgan Lebanon,Zimbabwe suffer effects of global tyranny

To Brian and the VisionariesYour vision may be having a few diversions from the script (and which vision does not, as what follows depends entirely on the roles played by the changing natures of the players in the acts that ensue) but what a valuable exercise it clearly is, sparking such intellectual and spiritual discussion – without a doubt, the Obama song is playing its role in the shifting tide of times and moods and perceptions…Some of the reaction sparked by this discussion also highlights the still prevalent leitmotiv of deep-set racial attitudes and although attitudes stemming from such irrational ignorance are always inevitably regrettable, even in this forum they further highlight the path still to treck.I take you all not only as highly intelligent people, but also as extremely aware Beings and I trust we all know the structures and the people that surround Obama, the gradients of power in place and the hidden agendas we have all read in the conspiracy literature
We know it all to be so. And yet, how and who are we to minimise the impact, in just such a short period, of the rising too the summit, of the first ever Black president of the ‘hegemon’ of Western/white supremacy? A condition that our political system in the UK is no where near to witness unless there is a cataclysmic change in racial attitudes among the political elites in Great Britain, since at present these do not enable the rising of Black candidates to the highest levels of political power. The path to shifting times is a personal experience of alchemy within the minds, the bodies, the emotions, the spirit of each individual, the transmuting of the lead of belief systems, judgements, to the gold of CHOOSING to live mindfully in each moment, in each breath, in full appreciation and respect for every other sentient and non-sentient being. It is personal because all change happens from within, one cannot manipulate another to think or feel the way one does unless
they happen to experience it for themselves and find that that is also their truth. As greater numbers of people Chose a truth where they do not feel the need to judge another, where they give words like ‘hope’ or ‘change’ a chance, for a change, in true innocence, expecting the better for a change rather than the worst, then the tide of change becomes manifest more intrinsically and extrinsically, fulfilling our self-fulfilled prophecies as always. To be the innocence at times, to be ‘The Fool’, has but been a role prized by the wise and should not be taken lightly. It is a deliberate tool in the alchemical process of personal and collective consciousness change.Deliberately and mindfully, not naively, I choose to decide that even the smallest amount of change in certain areas will be of vast energetic magnitude in comparison to any type of change we have lived through before. Only by creating this space of hope within myself and in my personal world
– the private is political – can I actively participate in this process of change. It is indeed not all down to one man/person, but as he correctly stated, to all of us. So, for today, and the days that follow, I choose deliberately not to judge, not to criticise, not to blame. This is my statement and contribution to the forum.

Frankinandemily wonders whether our discussion around the potential of the Obama Presidency to herald a new moment of change is ‘real’. In response, I can only offer the following.
From where I sit, all delusion emerges from the spectre of the real. Ideological cynics are as real to me as the amount of time I invest in reading between the lines of their one analysis fits all political ruminations. To be sure, the fact that I spend time engaging with their thoughts means most often than not, that they do indeed, have something valuable to say in the ways in which we live our social experiences and construct our social realities. They serve as our warning eyes when the consciousness of our vision gets a little tear sparkling and starry over dreams posing as reality. However, although they would be the last to admit absolute obedience to their own take on the truth, they too, it must be said, are in the persuasion business a market place as it were, to win hearts and minds to the prescriptive certainties of their apprehensions.
at 21:10 on 20 February
Unsurprisingly, they often make a plea (not an argument), for the dethronement of all power structures both personal and impersonal and arrive at the rather strange conclusion that society and our social relationships functions best when power is magically diffuse and no one takes ownership of any potential it offers! I admit that I find the idea of a de-powered social world in all of its permutations through some notion of the equality of innocence, as apposed to a viable option for political engagement, a most fascinating one. However, that said, one is forced to wonder where exactly reality fits into this dream? Perhaps it is not meant to and here, personal activism merely transmutes into political and ideological voyeurism – the ultimate spine tingling peep show on the lurid/squalid machinations of powermaniacs. …
Yes, I own up to the possibility that there are also those social critics who will most certainly be delivered to their graves believing that the Obama phenomenon never happened. Insistent no doubt, to their last thinking breath, that he’s just another assembly line president (albeit a colourfully bewitching new model), freshly minted and rolled off the production line by a dominating ruling elite selling apparitions to the masses who may be so desperate to soothe their souls with the comforting words of a brand new messiah. Moreover, that however sincere are our expressed intentions, determination and commitment to re-configure our thinking and re-engineer our daily practices for self-change, our efforts amount to nothing more than an exercise in futility- because the big bad wolves of the ‘Illuminati trans-national elite’ and an unfettered rampaging capitalism, will gobble up the lunch of our most conscientiously prepared optimism and expectations.
20 February
This ‘Don’t Believe the Hype’ social commentary, is far removed from the severely lacerated and in some instances, shattered nerve centres of ordinary people’s lives as they try to make sense of the very real dread and turmoil resulting from world market capitalism’s retreat into its current decaying phase.
As Brian insists` We are in the process of carving out a vision of civilisation from the random anarchic nature of life-forms crawling over each other`. Yes Brian, if we are indeed, crawling and swarming over each other, we have to do so with the social consciousness of an equitable intelligence, ever mindful not to crush one another as we strive to secure a space to live our lives in a dignified and decent way. This, I understand should factor in; personal power, autonomy and responsibility.
I call this process Civil-Life-Relations, and in order to construct and have it serve as an equitable means of governing our social relations (both with each other and within and between cultures), means that each and every one of us has to become in Patrick’s words, (active) `Vigilant Citizens`; in essence, citizens, fearless and bold in our assertion that co-operation and not division, justice and not injustice are ultimately the servants of our best interests. Machiavelli showed us long ago that power added a little sugar to the aperitif of both the good and the bad guy. Today, alas, it seems that most often than not, the bad guy owns a sugar factory whilst the good guy savours the taste and is keenly desirous of more of its succulence.
Although Obama’s pre-election pledge committed an administration under his direction to increasing American troops numbers in Afghanistan, his decision two days ago (February 18,2009) to endorse the dispatch of 17,000 US soldiers to the country so early in his presidency), is extremely disturbing to those among us who are desirous to see the extinguishing of the Bush Fires that are still raging throughout the world. Given this, many of us still nevertheless, entertain hope as opposed to the more realistic expectation that Obama may have a hidden sweet tooth!
On a more serious note, we have to be unflinchingly strident in reminding Obama that he’s hitching a ride on our ticket of change (and not just on the narrow bus of American strategic interests). He has to be very cognizant of our journey towards a new set of possibilities and opportunity for humankind. In truth, the possibilities and opportunities to rebuild out of the ruin of the terror of fear, domination and exploitation, qualitatively allows for new sets of shared principles of justice and co-operation.
Let one here and now be in no doubt, this is a tremendously formidable and challenging journey. The scope and magnitude of which cannot be left to the discretion and driving skills of one man, however compellingly eloquent and articulate his insisting message plays upon the consciousness of our hopes for change. To my mind, change is not a message but a process and in this context, implies a two-way social interaction of both speaking and listening. When Maybel correctly credits him with saying `change is down to all of us` I then ask, is this not when he is speaking to us? My question at this moment is to whom exactly was he listening to when he made the decision to send more troops into Afghanistan?
One needs to be patently clear. Correctly understood, the Zeitgeist is a summoning spirit of a moment and not the coming or arrival of any one extraordinary individual. As such, Obama is as much part of this spirit as Mr & Mrs ordinary, the only difference between us may well be that he has suddenly grown one more sweet tooth and desperately wants to bite into the opportunity to make a dramatic and lasting impression where he can be perceived as a ‘no nonsense kind of a guy’, whereas, we the ordinary, are still engaged in the process. Are we not still discoursing in the process by listening and speaking? I think so.
Stated simply, we the people, should stand on one unambiguous premise-to remind President Obama that “the greatest weapon of peace is negotiation” and victory is never ever complete without the consciousness of justice satisfied.

No way Patrick… New Labour was a mere speck of blue on Thatcherism’s clouded sky.Your Davos piece was brilliant. I told my teenage daughters to keep it under their pillows…Reality never sleeps!
Zainab C at 20:14 on 22 February
Will Obama meet expectations? Probably not. Have you ever seen a President who did? That is because we all have varied expectations and a tendency to expect too much. Do you really think one person can solve the World’s illnesses? The president is not the only person in the government. There are a few who are true but most are superficial leaders who spend more time debating and arguing than taking relevant action
Zainab C at 20:43 on 22 February
We look and pray for a savior, a dynamic leader on a white horse to ride into Washington and slay the political dragons of power, corruption and greed. We need to wake up and face reality.
Patrick James H at 21:00 on 22 February
A recent Harris Poll was taken last week, and Americans voted Obama as most admired over Jesus Christ, and Martin Luther King… that gives you some idea of where American heads are at… as usual, out to lunch. Any country who accepted GW Bush for 8 years has got reality issues anyway…
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 09:54 on 24 February
The enlightening thing about reality is the fact that it has a realism all of its own; it never fails to remind our expectations that they might indeed be alone in the world.
The problem with waking up and looking straight in the eyes of reality is the fact that one could well have gone to sleep in someone else’s bed.
Just imagine the state of minds of the millions of people throughout the world who believed that not in a thousand years would a Blackman ascend to the position of being considered the most powerful person in the world?
Let us imagine also if we can, how presidential candidate Obama might have felt waking up each morning during his campaign believing in this reality? … No We Can’t, No We Won’t!
I for one believe that Obama to his immeasurable credit raised the bar of our expectations that we should expect and demand more from our elected representatives and public officials.

Are we not here being slightly over protective and a little disingenuous in believing he views himself above Politics, public scrutiny and accountability?

Zainab C at 10:36 on 27 February
I agree that Obama has exceed expectation and raise the bars for all of us. However the Debates about globalization have centered on calls to improve accountability to limit abuses of power in world politics. How should we think about global accountability in the absence of global democracy? Who should hold whom to account and according to what standards?
Zainab C at 10:40 on 27 February
USA proudly displays its double standards. Is the United States going to put dictatorship into effect under the guise of the anti-terrorist struggle? Do you really believe that Obama will trigger major transformation?
Brian Viziondanz at 10:42 on 27 February
we firstly need to hold ourselves to account, to the values that we know in our heart of hearts to be real, when we are doing that, we can then hold each other to account
🙂
Brian Viziondanz at 10:44 on 27 February
he is part of the global transformation that is already in motion
Patrick James H at 11:54 on 27 February
Sorry to inject a dose of reality here… Obama has exceeded expectations?? He´s a great speaker, sure, but exactly what has he done? In a years time, the US will still have 150K troops in Iraq, there will be 40K + troops in Afghanistan, Iran war drums will be at fever pitch, Abu Griab will still be taking prisoners, rendition still going on, and… Gunatanamo will STILL be opened. Mark my words. Thats just for starters…It takes more than a slick speaker to fool this boy, Ive seen them all Clinton, Blair… and this one is just an upgraded model. He is the front man because he will do exactly as he´s told. Do you think he would have been lifted from nowhere and receive 100´s of millions in campaign funds from Wall St, AIPAC and the Military Manufacturers if he don´t owe them his success? For all non-Americans who are not sure, that´s how Washington really works. Money buys influence, and influence then become$ policy. What will it take to wake up OBAMANOIDS to reality.
Brian Viziondanz at 21:16 on 27 February
Patrick – the reality is that you can’t stop a runaway train with a brick wallits unrealistic to believe that ANYONE can wave a magic wand and everything is ok – even in my most idealist visionary moments i kno that process has its time-lapse.if we dismiss everything cos its doesn’t fit into our idea of perfection, we are never going to advance at all.transition thinking is finding the path from where we are to where we want to be while operating in reality

it is foolish to live with such a negative view of obama and the possibility his presence offers the world, by dismissing him anfd encouraging others to do the same, you are empowering those forces who you fear the most

Paul M at 00:01 on 28 February
we cant go from one perspective to another just like that (as much i would like it to happen SO much) – it aint gonna happen – just isn’t. so to bend wood – it’s done by heating up the wood with steam – then it bends – otherwise it would break – iisn’t that what obama is about???
Brian Viziondanz at 09:40 on 28 February
this video must be getting to be the most discussed video on facebook – the discussion is touching fundamental issues of how much we can trust our government if at all.whether we can or not and to what degree is up for debate, but what is really significant is that so many people do not trust the government and suspect the government of conspiring against the peoples’ best interests.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 16:49 on 28 February
Does this moment not point towards the possibility of the democratization of consciousness- or are we yet again just having a weird conversation with the same usual suspects.Patrick do you believe in the idea of a old new American zeitgeist?
Trusting in the `people` alone (even if each and every one of us is blessed with self-consciousness) is not always what the people want.
Leaders are as much the invention of our needs as social nature is a provider of wants and desires. This is a supply and demand issue. The problem has always been how we arrive at equilibrium.Perhaps this time around we can tip the scales in our favour. In our
attempts to achieve this we cannot bet on guarantees because this presupposes that the other side no longer have any interest in protecting their privileges.
Patrick James H at 17:31 on 28 February

Simple, for the reason why we worshiped a man-God instead of realising the power which has always laid inside each an everyone of us but rather than exercise this, society has chosen to revert to a passive role where we become obsessed with amusing ourselves to death and let the annointed leaders run our lives for us, tell us what we MUST DO and what we CANNOT DO and how we SHOULD FEEL. He’s only been President for One month!!! you all act like he’s been President for two years and ain’t accomplished anything he’s set out to do. He’s already passed several pieces of legislation before the paint on his wife’s fingernails have dried. The fact that he is President is a Zeitgeist in itself. America is still a Racist/White supremist institution. But the fact that he sits in the seat of power in such an institution tells me that the old white guard is dying. And may give all of us a window to change the world reality if we do as the “Black Panthers” would say…Seize The Time.

Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:06 on 06 March
Patrick, I must admit that a year on from now, I personally would rather not wake up in a skinnerian crib salivating for my Pavlovian breakfast of false consciousness. Even if I were to subscribe to your ‘I told you so self-awareness’ project- I still remain deeply puzzled on how our self-realising power and its corresponding self-actualising power, actually translates into a collective social power.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:09 on 06 March
. Are you here not in effect, proposing a world organized and regulated but one that is nevertheless, leaderless? If you were, would this then not be a first? At the risk of possibly being accused of a repetitive neurosis, the fact that Obama became president is as Sean Carter poignantly declares, a ‘Zeitgeist in itself.’ Following on from this, if history is sometimes the occasion that illuminates, rather than blinds, then perhaps we should thank our lucky stars for small blessings! It perhaps needs to be re-emphasised yet again that there is no ‘miracle’ beyond the appearance of Obama.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:11 on 06 March
Men and women of course die, only regenerative institutions live. Seen correctly, Obama is an invited guest into a White House with all of the myriad symbols of power that it announces. We are in no doubt that these ‘traditional’ power centres will now both surveil and tract the rhythms of every one of his very black steps. Yes, he’s on borrowed white time and yes, he’s not there to run a black business but on the contrary, America’s Business. Even American business however, needs partners and customers that they can sell to, consume and buy from. In other words, what we are saying is when we are doing business the US should not pretend that we don’t have anything to trade.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:12 on 06 March
In 2009, America should not continue to pretend that it can at all times satisfy all of our business requirements and needs. In 2009, America should not impose the imprimatur of its eagle on the currencies of our politics, cultures and religious inclinations. Obama as the Insiders’ Outsider appears initially to have some understanding that America has not being running its business well for a hell of a long time.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:14 on 06 March
Is it not he who has asked (and who knows, as the economic climate gets worse), may even plead, for America to change? Be that as it may, America is and has always, been our business too and we, let us remember, desired nay, implored for change from the American Imperium a long, long time ago! A leading question has to be- can Obama ever be our puppet, tugged and pulled to the desires of our will? And equally pertinent, is this what we really want?
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:16 on 06 March
I myself am not so sure that most of us would actually want the (in real terms), overpowerment, of our elected representatives. And not only that, but it is also I would suggest, a flagrant misconception to think that any human social relationships and the attendant social organisation(s) at any level, can be run effectively and have a cohesion, in the absence of people who, either (a) by some mode of popular, democratic form of election on the one hand or (b) some form of imposition on the other, are ascribed the appellation of ‘leaders’.
Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 00:18 on 06 March
The fool and the wise have one thing in common: the ability to deceive with the truth.
Patrick James Henningsen at 00:59 on 06 March
Time will tell all, but looking at things within the context of the Executive branch(forgive me for harping on about real politic), the previous puppet’s gang centralized a lot power in that branch as is frighteningly evident by relevelations this week. None of this (unconstitutional)power has been rescinded. America, by the law is not functioning as the constitutional republic which it was designed as. So this means that NO MATTER who is President, regardless of color or whatever, is running a militarized tyranny state. History shows what will happen next when the STATE is no longer accountable to the people(I’m not talking about elections)…

America is a rather simple beast- it became the envy of the world because of a balance of power, championing small biz, protection of civil liberties. All that has already gone to the wall. And even Obama hasn’t got a clue, he is, sadly, a puppet of Capital Financiers. It’s not his fault, he’s just doing his job, like the last four…

Patrick James Henningsen at 01:10 on 06 March
Watch what’s going on behind the scenes, Obama is calling for a New World Order with Gordon Brown. That was George Bush Sr and Henry Kissenger’s pet phrase. What what do Barrack and Gordon mean by this…? Instead of watching our CNNs, ABC’s, BBC’s and FOX’s, take a look at other news sources online and see what’s really going on behind the staged showcase that we have come to know as ‘POLITICS’.

I strongly believe that if these governments keep catering to their elite constituents, we are flirting with a disaster of the highest order. One example; 18 months to pull out of Iraq, but leave 50K troops for “support”? This is Doublespeak. No less. Why not get them out now? Vietnam, after 10 years, America had to high-tail it out, leaving their beers in the fridge. Are we really that naive to think its all in the sales pitch? Not to mention the bailouts… they keep com’in… why? They are looting the Treasury B4 the dollar collapses. It’s happening now, but media experts r out to lunch

Patrick James Henningsen at 01:21 on 06 March
The game is on now, and we are in the 2 min warning. We can either be distracted by the color of his skin, or the fact he is a democrat or any other paradigm. Obama is there on TV for us to watch, but do not lose sight of the bigger picture… we are living in a time of great deception, but luckily a lot of folks have woken up and are raising their game.

Global government, a global bank, a global currency, globalization is what this game is about. None of these are a good thing, as they centralize power into the hands of a few.

We must be careful, particularly in the West, our Governments and Financiers have over extended, become bloated and we will be asked to pick up the tab, and the mess which will follow… they will simply blame the useless eaters and turn around calling for a ‘New World Order’. Go figure.

Len Hardough-Davinci Ble at 10:42 on 06 March

Well Len, when we can bring minds together then the debate floor will often be a blaze with more great ideas by the hour. But step back from the debate floor for a minute… As I told Brian and King a month ago, the length of this thread is a testament to the power of art to invoke a discussion- and this subject has so many facets, it’s mind boggling. I love this thread and it has really incubated a number of ideas that we previously etching on the wall- and brought them to life.
